The system

What it is.

Pythagorean numerology comes from the school of Pythagoras in 6th-century BCE southern Italy — the same lineage that gave the West mathematics, music theory, and the idea that the cosmos is structured by ratio. Pythagoras and his students believed that numbers were not just descriptions of reality but the underlying language of it. Each digit one through nine carried a quality, an archetype, a kind of psychological signature.

The system, as it eventually got formalised in Western numerology, reads you through two inputs: the date you were born (every digit of it) and the full legal name you were given. The letters of your name are converted to numbers using the Pythagorean table (A=1, B=2, C=3, … Z=8), and the digits are then reduced by addition until they collapse into a single value between 1 and 9 — except for the so-called master numbers 11, 22, and 33, which are left intact.

The result is a small set of numbers — usually seven, sometimes more — each of which describes a different layer of you. The interesting work of a numerology reading is not what any single number means in isolation. It is the tension between numbers — the gaps and contradictions where your outward presentation and your inner motivation pull in different directions.

The signal

What it reveals.

The Pythagorean system produces seven core numbers. Each one names a different layer.

  1. I

    Life Path.

Derived from your full birth date. The central trajectory of this life — the kind of work, growth, and texture of experience your number is built to seek out.

  2. II

    Expression (Destiny).

Derived from every letter of your full birth name. The talents and capacities you bring with you — what you came in equipped to do.

  3. III

    Soul Urge.

Derived from the vowels of your name. What you actually want — underneath the want you'd name out loud. Often the most surprising number in the chart.

  4. IV

    Personality.

Derived from the consonants of your name. The "outer envelope" — what others meet first, before they meet you.

  5. V

    Birthday number.

The day of the month you were born, taken as a standalone signal. A specific gift or tendency that flavours the larger Life Path.

  6. VI

    Personal Year.

The number of the current calendar year as it interacts with your birth — describes the energy of the year you are inside, what it is asking, what it is making easier or harder.

  7. VII

    Convergences + gaps.

Where two or three of your numbers agree, that's a reinforced theme. Where Expression and Soul Urge disagree, that's the inner tension. We read both.

What the Numerology
section sounds like.

The Numerology portion opens with your Life Path number in one line, then moves through each of the seven layers and closes with the gaps between them. A real opening:

Sample · Anonymised

Life Path 7. Expression 22 (a master number — operator rather than designer). Soul Urge 11 (the other master, an intuitive that the rational 7 mind is built to override). Personality 2. The gap is the loudest part of this chart: you are a 7 (analytical, withdrawn, scholarly) built on top of an 11 (intuitive, sensitive, often correct before you can explain why). Most of your life you have led with the 7 and treated the 11 as background noise. The 22 means the world expects you to build something — and you can — but only if you learn to trust the 11 as a primary signal, not a guilty hunch.

How we cast it

Computed,
then read.

The seven numbers are computed deterministically from your full legal birth name and your exact birth date. We use the Pythagorean letter-to-number mapping (the original; the Chaldean system uses a different one and is not what this reading uses).

Master numbers (11, 22, 33) are preserved as written rather than reduced to single digits — meaning if your Life Path comes out 22, you get the 22 reading, not the 4.

The interpretation is written by an AI fluent in the Pythagorean tradition (drawing on Cheiro, Juno Jordan, and modern numerology commentary), then personally reviewed by hand before it reaches your inbox. More on the human edit.
